Business Confidence recovered after the flood crisis

Krung Thai Bank loan customers’ confidence in the 4th quarter of 2011 heightened after the flood crisis had eased up. They believe that economic and business conditions are going to get better because of rehabilitation measures and state economic stimulus package.

Ms. Sompis Charoenkiatikul, Senior Executive Vice President, Managing Director, Risk Management Group, Krung Thai Bank PCL. discloses about the results of Krung Thai Business Index (KTBI) preparation that measures entrepreneurs’ confidence nationwide of the 4th quarter of 2011, that it increased from 53.2 in the last quarter to 56 since the flood crisis in Bangkok and its vicinity had improved. These entrepreneurs anticipate that the Thai economy will revive in 2012.

“Supporting factors are state-fund injection used to finance the nation budget deficit, and clearer financial measures, e.g. the civil servants pay raise, the first-house policy, the first-car policy, corporate income tax cut, and the executive decree for flood restoration and rehabilitation. Besides, commercial banks are expediting approval of loans to relieve flood-hit customers. However, entrepeneurs’ confidence remains depressed due to the world economic uncertainty, as well as, the upward trend of energy, transportation, and raw material costs.”

Ms. Sompis Charoenkiatikul further states that confidence of entrepreneurs in eastern parts of Thailand is the highest as they were not much effected by the flood crisis while entrepreneurs in southern parts start to worry about an inundation in their areas. Moreover, the confidence of entrepreneurs in northern parts is on the rise because of their tourism industry upbeat in this winter season.
